CH Highlands
Bronze Chieftain

Chieftain

(Grovetons Koko Khalif X Highlands Egyptain Queen)

Chieftain was a true showman — a joy to have bred and owned. He was the #1 chocolate dog in the country three different years: 1983, 1984 and 1987. He was always in the last cut for BOB at specialties, before JAMS became part of our awards.

AM/CAN CH Highlands
Chivas Regal

Regal

(CH Highlands Bronze Chieftain X Windshire Princess Of Bree)

Regal was WD under English Judge Margot Wooley (Follytower) at the LRCP's April 1991 specialty. Mrs. Wooley's critique read: "Here was the best mover of the day. He is really active and sound, driving from behind and really stylish in movement. A lovely dark color with eye to match. In full coat. He has that beautiful outline with the upper arm and the shoulder blade making a right angle and the lovely reach of neck that goes with it. Excellent turn of stifle. Full of personality, only a few gray hairs betrayed his age." Regal won several specialty veterans classes, with a couple of JAMS before his show career came to an end due to George's lengthy illness. Regal lived to over fifteen years of age.

CH Coalcreek's

Country Preacher

Preacher

(CH Scrimshaw Another Deacon X Highlands Egyptain Queen)

Preacher was one of the sweetest dogs that you will ever know and he could read your mind!

CH Sir Keith of Kimvalley

Logan

(Follytower Sir Ken X Lochranza Aqua Manda)

Logan was our first English import and finished 1985 in 11th place, number #1 black dog in the country (times have changed!). He sired our first Obedience Trial Champion, OTCH Highlands Uptown Girl, UDX, JH, CAN CD. His motto was "The devil made me do it!"

Highlands Sir Lochee

Lochee

(CH Grovetons Copper Buckshot X Sambeau's Cam)

Lochee was my personal favorite boy and one heck of a retriever doing triples at six months of age.

CH Ravenwoods
Highland Sentry

Rusty

(CH Ravenwood Brigadier X Black Cloud Chaser CD)

Rusty was an incredible retriever and a very sweet boy.

Highlands Ace of Aries

Ace

(CH Grovetons Lucky Lindy X Betty Lou)

Ace was before his time — very typey and a wonderful house dog that loved the family, the house cats and everything but showing — he sired guide dogs and was the litter mate to our first champion: CH. Highlands Moon in Pisces. A dog who will live on in our hearts.

CH Highlands
Honey Dipper

Jason

(CH Coalcreek's Gimme A Break X Henning Mill's Bixby Kate)

Jason left us at 14 years, 5 months and 1 day. His tail wagged up till his final goodbye. A very special boy who had the perfect Labrador expression and face — one that is embedded in my mind forever. Sleep well old friend.

From Highland Kennel's
Web Designer

Highland Kennel is a favorite client — we laugh a lot, share a lot, come up with great ideas together and share a love of animals. I wish everyone clients who are so much fun and rewarding.

Creating this sub-site honoring Highland Kennel's labrador breeding champion history was moving for me. Seeing all the beautiful dogs and reading the testaments to their lives moved me to tears. These dogs are champions; they are also furry friends, as this site shows.

Putting together the pedigree charts, it made me smile to see names reappear. They started to feel like people I knew. He slept with her too, I thought! I wonder if she knew!?

Anyone who loves animals knows how amazing their love is and what a gift it is to interact with them on a daily basis. It's a poignant fact that their life spans are shorter than ours. So naturally a breeding program is going to see lots of animal lives come and go.

The dogs are not just a business; they are living, running, loving beings who shared their lives with Lilian, George and Andre. The responsibility of a business involving animal souls got to me.

I appreciate the glimpse into the impact these beautiful creatures made in the lives of their co-habitators at Highland Kennel. I could feel how they were friends.

This love of animals permeates Highland Kennel at the kennel also. It's a big part of why they are successful.

I'm happy Highland Kennel has honored their past champions here. I honor the love Highland Kennel has given to these beautiful animals. It feels right to give these friends a nod of appreciation for all the joy they brought and continue to bring in memory.
